- Students will learn to use rhythm patterns such as Bossa Nova, Samba, Ragtime, Blues, Swing, Rock and Funk etc to provide variety in left-hand accompaniment.

- Simple and common chords in left-hand makes the music sound uninteresting and dull. |
- Students will learn about chord progression, chord substitution and chord/bass enhancement which help to create a richer sound.

- Narrow left-hand keyboard range due to lack of knowledge |
- Students will learn advanced bass work and chord inversion to increase left-hand keyboard range.

- One style-playing with little or no variation in melody line or theme |
- Students will learn improvisation concepts such as:
i) Harmony
ii) Modes, Blues and Pentatonic scales
iii) Rhythm fills-in
iv) Freestyle right-hand soloing techniques
v) Fingering technique for complex passages

- Empty passages in between sections (theme to chorus, chorus back to theme, etc) leads to anti-climax
|
- Students will learn formation of bridges using chords and improvisation to connect sections smoothly.

- Song sounds incomplete without proper introduction and ending |
- Students will learn different forms of arrangement to provide proper introduction and ending to the song.

- Long holding notes (ie. tie notes) in melodic line makes music boring

- Students will learn how to play by ear without the need for scores. They will be taught:
i) Understanding chord structures
ii) Complete Scales (Major, Minor, Blues etc)
iii) Harmony and voicings |
